English Spots are a gorgeous breed of rabbits. They come in 7 different colors. Their full arch allows for them to be shown as they naturally move across the table which works great for 4-H as they don't have to be trained to sit still and behave. The judge actually wants to see them run on the table to show their definition of spots, and their arch. English spots have distinct markings.
Here is one website that shows a little about the markings... markings of spots
Tana has been trying to breed Guichi to our Buck Nestlea. He has yet to be successful. Clover is being held for 4-H fair and the Open Show so she will not be bred until fall. We are hoping to grow our mini group of English spots so that Tana can continue to show, and we can offer them to other 4-H members.
In a normal litter of spots you will see three different animals: 25% of the litter will be all one color, called 'selfs' or 'sports', 50% of the litter will be the desired marked english, while the remaining 25% will be animals with partial markings, typically having a moustache similar to Charlie Chaplin that is why these are called 'charlies'.
Last year at the Preble County Fair Tana took Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion with his English Spots.
We have found rabbits to be one of the hardest animals to raise and care for. They are very sensitive to the heat. They are delicate and not hardy animals in our experience. Unfortunately we have lost several rabbits in our short time of having them. We are hoping that the English Spot breed will prove to be hardier and longer lasting for us.
